Kandahar curfew lifted Tuesday, 12 February, 2002, 19:08 GMT The governor of the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, Gul Agha, has said that for the first time in more than two decades the city's night-time curfew is to be lifted. The measure takes effect from tonight. Gul Agha said security was improving and he was absolutely confident the police could keep control. In another development, a senior aide to Gul Agha has said more than 15 Taleban leaders are in contact with the authorities in Kandahar to discuss their possible surrender.
