UN Security Council calls on Taliban to hand over bin Laden
Wednesday September 19, 6:01 AM

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 18 (AFP) - The UN Security Council Tuesday called on Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia to "immediately and unconditionally" hand over Osama bin Laden, council president Jean-David Levitte said.

Washington has designated bin Laden, a Saudi-born militant, as the prime suspect in last week's deadly attacks on New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon military headquarters near Washington. Nearly 6,000 people are feared dead in the September 11 attacks.

"There is one and only one message the Security Council has for the Taliban: implement United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular UN Security Council Resolution 1333, immediately and unconditionally," Levitte, the French UN ambassador, said.
