Civilian fatalities in Afghanistan exceed 600: AIP

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 6 (Kyodo) - The number of civilians killed in Afghanistan since the U.S.-led strikes against the ruling Taliban started Oct. 7 has reached 633 as of Sunday, Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) reported Tuesday, quoting its own tally.

The Pakistan-based news agency also said 800 to 1,000 civilians were injured during the same period.

Kandahar Province had the highest number of casualties at 204, while four among the 92 people killed in Kabul Province were working for the ATC, a demining organization, the report said.

Meanwhile, four U.S. aircraft, including an unmanned spy plane, were ''destroyed'' by the Taliban militia during the past month, AIP said.
