Mohaqiq for broadly-based govt - Syed Bukhar - Shah Frontier Post

PESHAWAR - The Chairman Political Committee and Administrator Northern Areas, Hezb-e-Wahdat e Islami, Haji
Mohammad Mohaqiq has said UN sanctions would not end the miseries of his nation until the real issues leading towards this
crises are resolved.

In a letter to the UN Secretary General, Kofi Anan, he said, “we appreciate your determined efforts to find a solution to the on
going crisis and to alleviate the suffering of my Afghan people.

These efforts are still the only hope for the suppressed people of Afghanistan in general to my people, the Hazaras in particular.

Yet, despite your genuine efforts, it would still be very difficult to end the crisis until the real reasons, which have led to the
conflict”.

Mohaqia said like so many years before it, was a very difficult one for us because of drought and the instability, insecurity and
injustices brought about by the Taliban cohorts, we do appreciate deeply your determined efforts to find a solution to the
ongoing crisis.

He continued, “the presence of the foreign terrorist groups such as Arabs, Chechens, Uzbeks, Kashmiris, Pakistanis, Uighors,
etc.

inside Afghanistan, Taliban’s policy of racial discrimination and their total disregard for human rights, especially the rights of
women and other ethnic and religious groups, Taliban’s policy of ethnic cleansing, and scorched earth tactics to depopulate the
native people and resettlement of another in those areas.

He alleged that Pakistan and the Taliban are one and the same.
“The sanctions against the Taliban as much as they are appreciated, will not have the desired effect unless Pakistan is also
included in it.

History is a witness that no invader succeeded in occupying our country and any power, which came to our land with ulterior,
motives, when faced with our resistance, paid a heavy price for its blunder.

“We believe that military gains in some parts, or even temporary occupation the whole country, cannot bring peace.

War is not the solution of any problem, but is the creator of the problem itself.
Afghanistan is a multi ethnic country, in which no single group is the majority to be able to rule over the others.

So a broad based set up, which ensures the fair participation of all the ethnic groups proportionate to their real existence, is the
only solution for ending the current crisis.

We hope that the United Nations and the world community would continue to support the process of intra-Afghan dialogue and
a peaceful end to the conflict in Afghanistan.

Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Afghanistan, as an active and important member of the United Front, continues to support any
initiative of the United Nations to bring peace to our country.

Our country has suffered enough and our freedom loving, and culturally rich Afghan people either suffered untold atrocities in
Afghanistan or have been forced to live as refugees in various countries.

Thousands of our innocent people have been summarily executed or thrown into various jails in Taliban held areas.

We deserve the freedom and independence and a chance to live in peace.
We hope that New Year would bring relief to our people and peace to our country and the region.

We reaffirm our commitment to these lofty goals and for reaching them, we count on you for your continued support in this
regard and we pray for the success of your efforts.
