Afghans sans papers to be deported The Nation NWFP Home Secretary Syed Mazhar Ali Shah has said those Afghan refugees who do not have proper documents are being deported to Afghanistan. In an interview with Radio Tehran on Monday, Mazhar Shah said about 40,000 fresh Afghan refugees arrived in Pakistan from various routes during the last about five months. He said the international aid for the refugees was stopped after 1995. "Despite the fact that the Afghan people are our brothers and we helped them with open heart, the financial difficulties compelled the government to ban the entry of fresh refugees," he explained. He further said those refugees, who have been registered, have been living in Pakistan, saying "as there can be good or bad people everywhere, the police check the suspected people and those who do not have proper papers are being sent back to Afghanistan because of security concerns." The Provincial Home Secretary said there are no restrictions on the registered refugees and they can go to cities from their camps, he said and added there are colonies of Afghan refugees everywhere in the country including Peshawar, Hayatabad, Islamabad, etc. |
