Police arrest 200 ahead of execution of murderer

LAHORE, Pakistan: In a bid to pre-empt unrest, police have arrested around 200 activists of Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) group, ahead of next week's execution of one of its supporters over an Iranian diplomat's murder, officials said Saturday.

Police also detained SSP head Azam Tariq from the group's headquarters in the Punjab provincial town of Jhang, they said. The crackdown was launched on late Friday to prevent any unrest over SSP activist Haq Nawaz's hanging, a senior police officer said.

Large quantity of arms seized
QUETTA: The Frontier Corps (FC) seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including one recoilless rifle, star shells, three rocket-launchers and one mortar gun, in a raid on Picket Post near Pak-Afghan border on Friday night. The arms and ammunition were dumped in Picket Post and were to be smuggled into the country, FC sources said. The military weapons were "very" sophisticated and were being smuggled from Afghanistan, they added. The arms and ammunition included one 75-RR gun, 34 shells of RR rifle, three star shells, three rocket-launchers, 35 rockets...
