15 Afghan children die of cold Dawn PESHAWAR, Feb 19: At least 15 Afghan children have died due to severe cold in a refugee camp in Peshawar, officials said on Monday. Afghan refugees commissionarate official Shahzad Hussain said 11 children died between Jan 29 and Feb 12, and another four succumbed to freezing cold on Thursday night at the Jalozai camp. The children suffered from pneumonia and other respiratory problems, he said. "We are living in a very poor condition," refugee Gul Agha told newsmen during a recent visit to the Jalozai camp, crowded with 130,000 Afghans. Another 80,000 uprooted by war and the worst drought in 30 years are living displacement camps in the western Afghan city of Herat.-AFP |
