Loya Jirga termed only solution to Afghan problem PESHAWAR, Sept 5 (Frontier Post) - Shahzada Masoud, Chairman, Foreign Affairs, Great National Islamic United Front, has said that the proposed Loya Jirga, convened by the former Afghan King Zahir Shah, has the support of 95 per cent Afghans and it is the only solution to the ongoing Afghan crisis. Talking to The Frontier Post on Monday, he said that the people of Afghanistan should be given the right of self-determination and they should be allowed to decide their own affairs by themselves. He added that some people were thinking to form a joint government of Taliban and Northern Alliance but such efforts were useless. He said the six-plus two formula had also failed as some of the countries in 6 plus 2, were also involved in interfering in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. It will also not solve the problems. He said the UN and other international community should support only those formula which had the support of Afghan nation. They should respect the wishes of Afghan nation and allow them to elect a government of their choice in their war torn country to lead a respectable life. “Afghanistan is a home to all the Afghan nationalities including Pakhtun, Persian, Tajik, Uzbek etc and all the Afghans are brothers. All of them have waged a joint struggle for the liberation of their country from the communist forces. All of them should be allowed representation in the future government and this can only be possible when the representatives of all the Afghan groups will be having representation in the proposed traditional Afghans Loya Jirga. The formation of only such a government will not only be in the interests of Afghans but for all the neighboring countries,” he added. Shahzada Masoud also appealed to the UN and Security Council to take up this issue in their forthcoming meetings and play their positive role in solving the Afghan crises. They should pressurise the neighboring countries to stop the ongoing interferences in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. They would convene International Conference on Afghanistan issue. |
