Iran, Pakistan discuss Afghanistan, mutual ties TEHRAN (NNI): Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran Javid Hussain conferred on Monday with the head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohsen Mirdamadi on issues of mutual interests. At the meeting, Mirdamadi termed the existing relations between Tehran and Islamabad especially after the 1979 Islamic Revolution as being 'transparent and an acceptable level', reports IRNA. Referring to cultural, social and religious commonalties between the two countries, he said Iran and Pakistan, given their high capabilities, should not be satisfied with the existing level of mutual relations. Underlining the global tendency towards a multi-polar system as well as the status and capabilities of the Islamic countries, particularly those of Iran and Pakistan, Mirdamadi called for further unity among the Islamic countries to attaining a special position in the world. Highlighting the Afghanistan crisis, he said the only solution lay in cooperation among all belligerent groups, he said, adding ''we believe that a military solution will not produce any results in the long run and no single party will be able to administer the affairs and bring peace.'' He underlined that both Iran and Pakistan should adopt a crystal clear policy aiming to resolve the Afghan issue and to support a broad-based government as means of restoring peace and stability to the war-torn country. According to the public relations office of the Majlis, the Pakistani ambassador, referring to the cultural commonalties between the two countries said, ''We always seek to upgrade the level of our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.'' In conclusion, he expressed hope to witness new horizons in mutual relations with Iran in a near future. |
