Fall of Imam Saheb to Taliban denied

ISLAMABAD (NNI): Afghan opposition Northern Alliance has denied the fall of Imam Saheb, Dasht-e-Archi and Hazar Bagh to the Taliban.

A spokesman for the Northern Alliance Muhammad Habeel told Radio Tehran that the alliance forces have offered stiff resistance and repulsed the offensives of the student militia on on their positions in Khairabad and Bagh Lasi areas, near Taloqan city.

He said that the alliance forces have taken position in six to eight kilometers north, northeast and northwest of strategic Taloqan city. He said the alliance would try to recapture Taloqan within next few days.

Habeel also said that their forces repulsed a Taliban attack in Ishkamish area in the southwest of Takhar province. He asked the world community to extend food and other assistance to those one lakh people, who have been displaced from Taloqan to Parkhar and other areas, due to the Talbian offensive.
