Afghan opposition makes advances in Takhar ISLAMABAD (NNI): Afghan opposition United Front claimed that its forces have made advances in the northern province of Takhar and repulsed several attacks by Taliban. "Troops loyal to the United Front began advancing on the towns of Safidkutol, Laboby, Chakobi, Panchqaria and Habaki from two directions in Takhar province," an opposition commander said in email message from Takhar, Afghanistan. "Taliban troops were then repulsed with the United Front troops taking full control of these towns," Commander Hussain Anwari said. The retreating Taliban army abandoned a large quantity of ammunition. He said 5 Taliban soldiers were captured and are currently held as POWs. The front lines in Samangan have now been established near the city of Baluch (away from Darre Suf). ++++++ AAR Note+++++ The headline for this NNI news article does not seem correct. Most of the regions mentioned in the NNI news article are situated in-and-around the Samangan and Sar-e-pol provinces adjacent to Balkh and Takhar. |
