CNN, Al-Jazira allowed to open offices in Kabul ISLAMABAD (NNI): The ruling Taliban in Afghanistan have allowed the US television network, CNN and the Qatari television network, Al-Jazira to open their offices in Afghanistan, reports VOA. Sources close to Taliban who do not want to be named said Taliban government has allowed US television network, CNN and Qatar television network, Al-Jazira to open their offices in Kabul. Taliban closed the television transmission and music programmes after they captured Kabul in 1996. Taliban government also prevented journalists to take pictures or make video film. The Taliban government in the wake of the hijacking of the Indian plane last year, had for the first time given permission to foreign reporters to make pictures besides allowing the reporters and television networks to dispatch news and reports to their respective agencies from Kandahar. CNN and Qatari network, Al-Jazira will soon open their offices in Kabul. But the CNN and Al-Jazira Television did not say any thing in this regard but the two networks held talks with Taliban officials for several times to open their offices in Afghanistan. |
