Taliban launch fresh offensive in N. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (NNI): The ruling Taliban in Afghanistan have launched offensive in Sar-e-Pul province, breaking the comparative peace in northern Afghanistan, reports Radio Tehran.

The attack is apparently directed to capture Sang Charak area, a town of strategic importance in northern Afghanistan.

Taliban also want to strengthen hold on northern Afghanistan, which has great politically importance for them. The offensive has been launched at a time when there are more chances of resumption of efforts for political solution of Afghanistan problem.

According to the radio, Taliban might have launched the latest offensive to prove their claim that they are dominating force in the war-ravaged Afghanistan. The radio alleged that Taliban have burnt the houses and crops of the civilians of the villages they captured in their offensive.
