PESHAWAR (January 21) : Pakistan and Afghanistan have held talks to discuss the regional situation, the Taleban-controlled Radio Sharia reported on Wednesday. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Taleban-run Afghanistan Mulla Abdul Rahman Zahid received Pakistani Ambassador to Kabul Aziz Ahmed Khan for the talks in his Kabul office, the radio said. The report said that Zahid and Khan exchanged views about "bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interests." The radio quoted the deputy foreign minister as telling the envoy from Islamabad that it was becoming necessary for Muslims of the world not to keep silent about matters of the surrounding region. "The cruelties and crimes committed by the Russians against the Chechens cannot be ignored," the radio quoted Zahid as saying. "We must support the legitimate rights of the Chechens because the infidel powers are always striving to hinder the unity and solidarity of the Muslim nations", he added. "It is incumbent upon Muslims of the world to strengthen their unity and solidarity in the light of Islamic guidance against suppression and infringements upon their rights," the deputy minister added. The response of the Pakistani envoy to Kabul was not reported by Radio Sharia.----Internews
