Governor Bamyan parts ways with Taliban ISLAMABAD (NNI): Governor central Afghan province of Bamyan Maulvi Islam has parted ways with the Taliban after developing differences with the student militia, reports Radio Tehran. The Radio quoted the Governor as having unofficially said that he has parted ways with the Taliban. The broadcast however did not give more details in this regard. It said that fighting is going on between the Taliban and opposition forces in Saighan pass in Bamyan. Harkat forces led by commander Aziz have entered Saighan pass. There have been conflicting reports about the situation in another strategic district in Bamyan, Yakolang. Some reports suggest that an independent group of Hizb-e-Wahdat led by Irfani has waged war against the Taliban in southwestern Yakolang. Besides, there have also been reports of fresh fighting in the vicinity of Samangon province. The new front against the Taliban in central Afghanistan has been opened at a time when Taliban have repeatedly been making assaults on the Taloqan city for the last two weeks. |
