Pakistan to intensify contacts with Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (NNI): A high level meeting, chaired by Chief Executive, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, on Thursday decided to intensify contacts with Afghanistan.

"Important decisions were taken to facilitate an early finalization of the transit trade agreement with Afghanistan," an official statement said.

The meeting also discussed measures to check smuggling across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Proposals for consolidation and development of Pakistans friendly relations with Afghanistan, Iran and the Central Asia Republics were considered.

The review took place at a follow-up to the Chief Executives visit to Iran and the Gulf countries in November and December 1999, the statement said.

The minister for Foreign Affairs, the Interior Minister and senior official also participated in the meeting.
