saddam's special envoy calls on mulla omar

islamabad, dec. 16, irna -- a special emissary of iraqi president saddam hussain held talks with taliban's supreme leader, mulla omar in kandahar, a pakistani newpaper reported on thursday. according to the "frontier post", the meeting took place in kandahar, earlier this month. however, the newspaper, which quoted unnamed afghan sources, did not disclose any detail about the contents of talks held between the two sides. it said a special envoy of the iraqi president had also visited kandahar last year, offering safe haven to the saudi dissident, osama bin laden, if he did not felt secure in afghanistan. the daily said that osama got missing one week after that visit of the iraqi envoy. md/hr end ::irna 16/12/99 22:03
