Taliban yet to receive intimation of closing Afghan banks by Pakistan ISLAMABAD (NNI): Taliban have said they have not yet received any official and formal intimation about the closure of Afghanistan banks by Pakistan. Taliban Foreign Minister, Maulvi Wakil Ahmed Mutawakel told BBC that Pakistan-based Afghan banks have also not been issued any directives. Pakistan Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar in an interview with IRNA in Islamabad has disclosed that Pakistan has closed Afghanistan banks and frozen Taliban accounts in line with the UN sanctions on the neighbouring country. Mutawakil said there is no bank account in the name of Taliban in the entire world but the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" did have bank accounts in those countries that are recognizing Taliban government. The announcements of Kuwait and others would not have its effect as luckily, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan does not have any considerable and handsome amount in these banks. Anyhow, such brutal decisions being taken and implemented by any country would not be good for the Afghans". The Taliban minister said none their officials has been informed about the closure of bank accounts, however, reports appeared in the press. "However, our relations would remain like the past. But the countries that are recognizing us should in principle discuss the issue with those who are imposing these sanctions so that such problems and hurdles could be removed". He said closure of banks would not have any significant effect because Taliban do not have any considerable amount and assets there. |
