UN urged to help stop Iran's interference in Afghanistan KABUL: The Taliban Foreign Minister, Mulla Muhammad Hassan Akhund, has asked the UN Secretary General to take notice of the continued Iranian interference in the internal affair of Afghanistan, Bakhtar News Agency repots. In a letter to Kofi Annan, the Taliban Foreign Minister has urged the world body to find a peaceful solution to the uncalled for and unwarranted conflicts and fighting. He lauded the UN role in the resolution of such problems the world over. The Foreign Minister has also drawn the attention of the UN Secretary General towards the reported seizure of a huge quantity of arms and ammunition including anti-tank mines, missiles and artillery shelling by the Kyrgyz authorities. The weapons were being supplied to opposition commander, Ahmed Shah Masood by the Iranian government. The letter says that the latest incident is another proof of the blatant interference of Iran in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. A similar letter, the agency says, has also been sent to the Organization of Islamic Conference apprising it of the situation. The open interference of Tehran by sending big quantity of arms to the Afghan opposition indicates that Iranian rulers are not pleased with the restoration of a durable peace in Afghanistan, the letter said. Iran has all along been making hue and cry over the killing of the so called diplomats which is aimed at diverting world attention from its open meddling in Afghanistan. The letter urged the UN Secretary General to use his influence for halting such interference which could ignite the fire of war. The letter deplored that Iran has intensified its interference at a time when international efforts for resolution of Iran-Afghanistan conflict are gearing up. --NNI |
