Afghan northern alliance says attacked by Pakistan

ANKARA, July 31 (Reuters) - Afghanistan's northern alliance said on Friday Pakistani forces backed by air power had attacked their positions in Faryab province in the north of the country inflicting heavy loss of life and damage to property.

French envoys bid to reopen Afghan aid channels

PARIS, July 31 (AFP) - France will send a high-level delegation to Afghanistan and countries with close Taliban links in an attempt to get humanitarian aid through to the Afghan population, the French foreign ministry said Friday.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The global flow of refugees and asylum-seekers has dropped by about 6 percent, partly because fighting ceased in some parts of the world, according to the U.S. Committee for Refugees.
