UN team leaves for Kabul for talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD, July 30 (AFP) - A United Nations delegation left for Kabul Thursday for talks with the Taliban authorities on a range of issues including the expulsion of foreign aid groups, UN sources said.

Taliban launch TV smashing operation in Kabul

KABUL, July 30 (AFP) - Heavily-armed Taliban militia fighters on Thursday launched a series of raids on electronics shops in the Afghan capital, smashing and taking away dozens of television sets and video players, an AFP reporter witnessed.

Afghans renew efforts for holding Loya Jirga

PESHAWAR - The preparations by Afghan Council for Peace and National Unity (ACPNU) to hold the Loya Jirga in Afghanistan have picked up, sources said Wednesday.
WFP aircraft fired upon in Northeastern Afghanistan

An Antonov 32 aircraft chartered by the United Nations World Food Programme, which was flying its final rotations for the earthquake rehabilitation effort in Northeastern Afghanistan, was fired at yesterday as it landed at Faizabad, in Badakshan province.
